wxformbuilder crashes when designing simple gui

wxformbuilder crashed (the program closed) when designing a simple gui. These are the steps I took prior to the crash. At each step I renamed the widget and checked off various options.

Created a frame
Added menu bar with 1 menu item
Added toolbar
Added statusbar

looked at the generated c++ code and header files

added boxsizer (vertical boxes)
added a panel inside the boxsizer.
clicked into the option to name the panel and program closed.

If the last steps were improper, the program should have thrown up a pop-up dialog that stated so. If the last few steps were proper, then the program should not have closed.
