Bug Description

Good afternoon,

Issue #1

I have installed Ubuntu 6.10 on a PC with the following keyboard attached.

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:c309 Logitech, Inc. Internet Keyboard

I see in my "System --> Preferences --> Keyboard --> Layouts" that the following device was detected.

Generic 105-key (Intl) PC

The expected behavior is that Gnome's "Keyboard Preferences" would match the make/model of keyboard attached. This would apply on installation, boot, and hotplug events.

Issue #2

When I "Choose" my keyboard model in the "System --> Preferences --> Keyboard --> Layouts", I see two Identical entries for "Logitech Internet Keyboard" in the selections list. The expected result is that there is one "Logitech Internet Keyboard", or that there is additional text differentiating the two configurations.

Issue #3

When I choose the top "Logitech Internet Keyboard" in "System --> Preferences --> Keyboard --> Layouts --> Choose", then select "Close", then return to "System --> Preferences --> Keyboard --> Layouts --> Choose", the lower of the two entries for "Logitech Internet Keyboard" is selected. To restate for clarity, I select the top entry, the system reverts to the bottom entry.

I examined the following defects when searching for dupes:
bug 46046
bug 23762
bug 23244
bug 59429
bug 51193
bug 53914

bug 68946

Thank you for your time,
Frank Russo

Thank you for your bug. Could you describe one problem by bug next time? To confirm by somebody having the same problem, likely an upstream feature request

Note that few people are looking at keyboard problem at the moment and it might be easier to work on the problem for people with the corresponding config to trigger the bug, it might take some time before having somebody starting to work on that

Re-opening, as suggested by Pedro. I set the status to "new" as none of the other items in the dropdown seemed to indicate a "re-opened" status.

Can you reproduce this problem in supported Ubuntu version like 10.04 or 12.04? Thank you!
