Some .mp3 files are not played in rhythmbox

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have some low quality demo mp3s which rhythmbox cannot play. All I hear is low level noise/static.

file lists them as
Audio file with ID3 version 2.3.0, contains: MPEG ADTS, layer III, v2, 96 kbps, 22.05 kHz, JntStereo

ffplay gives
Duration: 00:03:42.95, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 96 kb/s

They play correctly in totem hence rhythmbox package not gstreamer.

works for me with rhythmbox 0.13.1-2ubuntu1 in ubuntu-10.10

Hmm me too.
Maybe something to do with the crossfader when it's playing from library.
I would test but I can't get it to stop once it's playing :/
