REASON FOR SRU:
This should prevent issues when upgrading to the next LTS which will have a version of pidgin that ships icons in this package.

Test Case:
1. Install pidgin and pidgin-facebookchat from archive
2. Add https://launchpad.net/~pidgin-developers/+archive/ppa
3. Upgrade pidgin and watch it give an error
4. Downgrade pidgin to archive version
5. Upgrade pidgin-facebookchat to -proposed version
6. Should prevent installation of PPA version of pidgin with this package installed

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal ( Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal ) :

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but your advice is not working. I tryed to deinstall and reinstall pidgin, pidgin-data and pidgin-facebookchat_1.64-1_amd64.deb several times and its not working. I don't know what i should do.

I confirm the issue.

A temp solution form me was to force unistall of pidgin-facebookchat by running in a console:

sudo dpkg --force-all -r pidgin-facebookchat

Yeah i tried those one too, but since i deinstalled ist (forced) i can't reinstall ist. dpkg doens't give me the opertunity to reinstall is. Here the outpot of the Terminal:

This is due to using a PPA version of pidgin in Lucid. If we do the update from 1.69-2, then the archive version of pidgin in Lucid will be missing this icon.

I take it back, we could SRU a fix that makes pidgin-facebookchat depend on pidgin-data less than 1:2.7.9-1~, the question is whether or not it's worth it since the Pidgin Developers PPA should be fixed soon.

Why does this need an SRU for lucid? Upgrade problems should be fixed in the target release, not the original one, as we don't require people to install all -updates. I. e. the later package should have appropriate Replaces:/Breaks:, instead of the lucid one a << dependency (which should be avoided anyway, because it prevents the installation of newer versions, backports, etc.). Please reconsider the lucid update here.
