Bug Description

Hi guys i am not sure if this is the right place to file this bug here. if not please forgive me.

i recently baught a hp dv6 3150sa 64bit win7 laptop and dual booted with ubuntu 10.10 64 bit.installation was flawless and on my first reboot after the installation a message poped up telling that there is a a driver available for you computer. it read ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics card driver. I installed this driver and on reboot i chose ubuntu10.10 again which took me to the command mode. i tried doing cold boot a couple of time more and then realised i have lost the graphical desktop.

To my skills re installation was the only option and i havent installed this driver again.

i have got an inbuilt ATI mobility readon HD 5470 graphic card(switchable with intel HD GMA)

regards

I have the same issue with a brand new HP dv6 3322.
My laptop have an ATI card and an integrated Intel graphic. The issue seems related to the switchable cards that are not supported by the ATI driver.
I do not want to come back to Win7, but if I do not reach to use the ati card with Ubuntu, it will be the only solution.

Hey riyasmp,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

hi guys

I posted this issue few months ago and there was no real fix what i got. i re installed ubuntu 10.10 did not make another attempt to re install that proprietary driver again.

Now I am coming back with the same problem in ubuntu 11.04. the issue here is lil diffrent. I made a fresh install of 11.04 on the same laptop and the hot boot returned me a blank screen when I chose 11.04. i did a cold booting and it took me to 11.04 unity interface. i logd out chose classical ubuntu desktop and tried that as well.

since then when i restart X is crashing and I cant use 11.04. i tried to seek some help from #ubuntu-uk channel. and some one asked me to put command in the rescue mode( sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_backup_20110508 )

I did that and it returned the output /etc/X11/xorg.conf no such file or directory.

the output for cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | pastebinit is http://paste.ubuntu.com/604907/

with regards
