Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, fully updated from the regular repositories.

I connect my laptop to an HDTV through HDMI, configuring it through Preferences -> Monitors. I switch sound output to HDMI in System -> Preferences -> Sound -> Output. This works flawlessly as long as I somehow use my laptop monitor, meaning that I either mirror the screens or use an extended desktop. If I turn off the laptop monitor there is no sound output through the HDMI; turning back on the laptop monitor restores sound output to the TV. Switching back to the regular output device works as expected.

Hey Øsse,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
