Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using a new (as of December 2010) HP Pavilion dv6t laptop with Ubuntu 10.10.

In system > Preferences > Power Management I have set "On AC Power" on the following:

Put computer to sleep when inactive for: Never
When laptop lid is closed: Blank Screen

If I close the lid only briefly, I can open the lid, type in my password, and resume use of the laptop. But if I leave the lid closed for too long (I do not know the exact length of time, but perhaps between 5 to 15 minutes) the display is gone. I am left with nothing but a black screen and nothing will bring it back. I have to turn off the laptop and then turn it back on again.

I do not know if this bug is affecting gnome-power-manager or the linux kernel so I have filed a bug report against both.

Update:

I fixed this problem (for myself) by building and installing an upstream kernel. So I think the problem is in the Ubuntu Kernel and not in Gnome Power Manager.

The link to the bug I filed against the Ubuntu Kernel is here -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/696164

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.
