Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

From what I've read this has been a lingering issue since somewhere around the 9.xx release. I just wanted to let you all know I still see this in 10.04 and 10.10. The screen will flicker severely after about a day of use and resolves for most of the day. I've noticed that the keyboard will not respond as well during flickers and letters go missing when flickers happen mid typing.

This is the first bug I've submitted so I hope I've included enough info.

I found a reference somewhere (sorry, didn't note the URL, not that it matters much). It suggested to add i915.powersave=0 to grub in order to turn off the power save of the video adapter. It doesn't seem to help though. I still get sever flicker after about 24 hours. As I try more thing I'll try to add them to this ticket.

i915.powersave=0 didn't change anything. I saw this:

http://superuser.com/questions/100654/ubuntu-9-10-screen-flickering-problem-on-thinkpad-r31-with-intel-83830-graphics

Not sure if it's relevant at all but since screen flicker has been around since 9.10 as far as I can tell it may. I've set the i915.modeset=0 in grub and we'll see how it works over the next few days.

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
    Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
    analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue in.
