Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Hi,
Just upgraded to current Natty Alphas.
I'm seeing moderate texture corruption in both Nexuiz and Assault cube on maybe 10%ish of the dispaly; it moves about to various bits of the game area, and it mostly appears as a rainbowish sheen on some bits, or a bit of coloured noise on other bits.

See broken1 and 2 attached.

In broken1 you can see there are about 3 floor squares that are random rainbow colours.

In broken2 again you can see a few on the floor and walls.

Hi Dave,

To update you on status... we'll be updating to a new X stack within the next week or so, including new mesa and a new -ati driver. My bet is that it includes a fix for this issue. RAOF is currently working on uploading the stack to xorg-edgers for testing, but it may be a day or so before that's ready to test.

testing is showing it to be quite stable.

I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new
stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug
upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about
it.

The PPA is available at:
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

Here's a simple way to install:
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

Then reboot your system to get to the new bits.

If you want to go back to stock Ubuntu, there is a corresponding
ppa-purge tool:
  sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

OK, I'll do this at the weekend.

Hi Bryce,
Thanks - that fixes it! That's with Mesa 7.11.0+git20110119.a5da4acb-0ubuntu0sarvatt

Another minor issue it also fixes is that in KDE when I go to logout it fades the background out, that was getting some subtle corruption in that fade out - also gone with that fix.

Dave

Great, thanks for testing! We'll be uploading mesa 7.10 (which should be essentially what you tested, modulo a few git commits) some time this week.
