Bug Description
Binary package hint: slim
I'm intending to replace gdm with slim however, slim will not start after booting. Here are the steps to reproduce the problem.
- I installed slim through synaptic, and when prompted to choose the display manager, I chose slim.
- I tested by switching to tty1, stopping gdm (/etc/init.d/gdm stop) and then starting slim (/etc/init.d/slim start)
- slim works without issue.
- I then rebooted. Everything was fine, but then loading stopped at the ubuntu progress bar
- After waiting a few minutes, I restarted and changed the kernel line to omit 'quiet splash' then booted
- I noticed that the loading when slim started. ("Starting X display manager: slim")
- I switched to tty1, ran dpkg-reconfigure slim and chose gdm, then rebooted
- Machine booted with no problems
I checked the slim.log and found:
