I have the same problem on my newly installed edgy system.

I can't burn with k3b or baker with my normal user.

But: Right click on a *.iso file in nautilus, then "burn cd" works!

Burning with root and k3b works as well.

..here is the output of `id':
uid=1000(lars) gid=1000(lars) groups=4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),25(floppy),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),109(lpadmin),111(scanner),114(admin),115(fuse),1000(lars)

I've manually changed the permissions on all cd-burning-tools I could find. Like for instance cdrecord cdrdao etc.. I think I also had to change the permissions of /dev/cdrom and/or similar.

Stuff works now. A bit curious if this really is necessary on a fresh install, or what could have changed the permissions here.

What is the group ownership of /dev/sg0 (that seems to be your burner)?

ls -l /dev/sg0
crw-rw---- 1 root root 21, 0 2006-12-21 16:43 /dev/sg0

..some more info:

root@ibmr52:~# file /dev/cdrom
/dev/cdrom: symbolic link to `scd0'
root@ibmr52:~# ls -l /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2006-12-21 16:43 /dev/cdrom -> scd0
root@ibmr52:~# ls -l /dev/scd0
brw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 11, 0 2006-12-21 16:43 /dev/scd0

..but as said above i've done some quick (and careless, probably) changes just to get it to work in a hurry.. haven't really tried to burn anything in a while though

If it still happens with v1.0 / v1.0.1, feel free to re-open the bug. Thanks!
