Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I'm using Maverick, and I've installed it using a "USA" layout.
Later on I changed the layout to "USA International (AltGr dead keys)" and deleted the "USA" one.
Now, whatever I do in the keyboard-preferences dialog (aka, "apply system wide", etc..) as I reboot the keyboard layout switcher is loaded in the tray bar and the "USA" layout is still there. If I delete it again, it will disappear until the next reboot.

Just found the same bug in Linux Mint (Bug #638627)
The workaround in comment #6 there works like a charm. So it's probably gdm-related.

could you please tell the gdm guys about the issue?

Since this issue is not a gnome-control-center fault I have reassigned to gdm package instead.

Same problem in gnatty. I don't use gnome, but use a small WM and I use gnome-settings-daemon every time I start up for gtk-theming. The problem is, that this resets the keyboard layout to whatever gnome thinks is right, and no matter how many times I tell it to delete the USA keyboard layout for my user and only use dvorak, it doesn't stick and I have to change it manually on restart. Very unhelpful keyboard layout program in my mind.

actually, this is not just a gdm bug, this is also a gnome-settings-daemon or gnome-applets bug because that's where the keyboard setting application is, on a per-user and per-system basis. For me, whether I try to apply the changes per-user or per-system, same result: USA stays default, and is undeletable. :p

or wait, nevermind, maybe it is distro specific to ubuntu. Check this out: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621061

summary
expected behavior: if a user changes default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties when gnome-settings-daemon is running. With normal shutdown or restart, GDM's default "keyboard layout" for that user should be equal to the new setting.

Current behavior: default "keyboard layout" on GDM screen is set to last keyboard layout that was manually set at GDM screen by user, and that keyboard layout becomes the layout in use in session.
