Using empty template causes error

Using the empty theme/template causes an error (something like "Can't redeclare smarty") and then you are completely locked out of phpds.

I needed to change database to fix problem with this:
UPDATE `pds_core_menu_items` SET `template_id` = '844895956'

The empty template is installed by default. And you cannot change to a template that is not already installed.

Sorry I thought you were using your own template. I guess it has been forgotten in the sql install file.
