Bug Description

Binary package hint: console-tools

I'm writing from a new installation of Ubuntu since the previous was compromised (I could not start the Xorg server since it was DELETED!). The configuration is exactly the same as before.

1) I'm sure I was using Ubuntu 10.10, I installed it in October from the CD. Today I've reinstalled and made all the updates and it says "Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal - released in April 2011 and supported until October 2012"

2) I installed "sudo apt-get install console-tools"

3) I wanted to use consolechars from console-tools to increase the size of font in the terminal (not the GUI emulation terminal BUT the one you access from CTRL+ALT+F1)

4) When I was installing "sudo apt-get install console-tools" , it removed many files included the ones of Xorg. So, after I reboot I wasn't able to access the main window. I tried the recovery mode and switched to the shell with networking, and typing "startx" it said that it couldn't find any Xorg

If I run sudo apt-get -s install console-tools I get:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

xxx@xxx:~$ sudo apt-get -s install console-tools

Why not use setfont instead? It's installed by default, and it replaces consolechars.

console-tools is still in the archive because there may still be weird special cases that require it, but I don't think this is one of them.

Yes, I know. After that I solved the problem with setfont, but still I
think it's quite inconvenient that a package uninstalls the graphical
server. I think it should be quite clear to people who are going to
install console-tools that they will lose any GUI. Just a suggestion :)
