Auto-Login does not start KDE Daemon media notifications

Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdm

If "Enable Auto-Login" is checked in "System Settings, Advanced, Login Manager, Convenience", when a user boots the system the KDE Daemon automatic notifications do not occur, i.e., when a user plugs in a removable media such as a USB key or CD/DVD, the window asking you what you want to do does not pop up.

If the user logs out and logs in again, or if auto-login is disabled, the KDE Daemon notification works as expected.

It appears that the notifications only work if the user has manually logged in through KDM.

A simple workaround is to enable a short (5-second) delay for the auto-login; this will make sure the notification process will work properly.

System: Kubuntu 6.10 (AMD64).
