my sound doesn't work, when i open the mixer no soundcard appears

Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22
I am using the 10.04 release of ubuntu
i am not sure of the package, but the gnome alsa sound mixer shows no sound card and crashes
I expected to be able to hear sound and alter the properties, but the sound card doesn't appear and alsa crashed

Could you add output of dmesg after crashed?
