Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-appmenu

Please add support for Skype too. At the moment only a File entry is shown which has Close as only menu entry. The real menu is in Skype's window, not in the unity's global menu.

A new skype version (2.2.0.25 beta) is available from partner repository, could somebody test it and tell if the problem persists?

From deb http://download.skype.com/linux/repos/debian/ stable non-free ?

That seems to still have 2.1.x Just added in synaptic and 2.1 is the version available

no... add the partner repository
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu lucid partner
deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu lucid partner

(replace lucid with your distro name)

Mmmhhh...

I already have those enabled in synaptic, I just changed to "Main Server" as the mirror just to be sure, made an update but there is no skype package available. I'm in Natty of course :)

Btw, should I enable "Pre-released updates" or "Unsupported updates"?

ok this is the problem... partners upload their version for ubuntu after the official release... :(

so please use "maverick" instead

Gustavo Rubio (gustavo-42ideas) wrote :

Nope, neither the maverick repo version or the skype official deb work.

Sorry...

I mean they do work, but not the global menu integration

Ok, this bug is fowarded upstream, unfortunately I don't think ubuntu developers could do anything about this since the code is not open...

The only way is to wait for an upstream fix.

Sadly we'll have to wait an unknown amount of time (as usual) before they fix this. ¿Could it be related to QT? Maybe there is a workaround...

I'm probably missing something here, but skype doesn't have an application menu, just the menu available by right clicking the tray icon.

Really? Then where is the option to hide offline contacts? for example...

@Brian: You are right. I'm not sure how this was in the old (2.1.0.81) but the new (2.2.0.25) doesn't have an application menu except the one from the Skype button (both within the the application and the tray icon). Maybe Skype's developers should implement one of the Skype button menus to the global menu but before that there should be no menus at all in the global menu.

We do not have any top menu since all qt4 versions of Skype, now Skype devs should fix, but what exactly they should fix?

Gustavo Rubio (gustavo-42ideas) wrote :

@Marco: Then there is no bug for this actually, but I still wonder how can you show only online contacts? IIRC there was an option to do this but I can't remember if this option was on the QT 3.x based skype menu.

@Gustavo
CTRL+U? Is also written in the readme file.

Can I close then our Jira ticket? If yes can you next time do not push people to open random Jira ticket when they don't know why they are doing this?
