Profiles can't be changed directly

I have been struggeling a bit with the use of profiles, but I think I have worked it out now. And as far as I can see it does not work the way it should. The profile you use has to match the source material, that's fine. But it seems like OpenShot will only use the profile that is set as default at startup.
This means that if you start OpenShot, choose a different profile than the default for your project and start editing, you're in trouble. And if you go the way of File>New project where you get the "Create new project" dialog box and choose a new profile there, then you are also in trouble, because in both cases OpenShot will continue to use the default profile.
The only way to start using a new profile is to first choose it as default, then close and reopen OpenShot. This is very cumbersome and not the way it should be. One should be able to choose the right profile and then start working directly, both after starting OpenShot and when using File>New project.

Also, the manual should say more than it does about the use of profiles. I have some thoughts about it and I'd be happy to write a draft of the chapter, but it really should work the right way first.

My OpenShot version is 1.2.2.

Has anybody given this a thought lately? I haven't seen it mention in any release notes, so I imagine the problem remains although a year has gone by since I first posted this.

Sorry, no this hasn't been looked at yet. Our goal is to set the profile automatically when importing files, or at least provide an option to select a file and use the file properties to determine the profile.

It's just a question of finding the time to implement all this stuff...

I just tested this out. After creating a new project with a profile that is different to the default, the new project seemed to use the profile set in the new project dialog. I verified it using some debug statements.

Are you able to verify this?

Yes, I am. My default profile is HD 720p 25. Just now I created a new project with a 640x480 30 fps profile, and this profile is definately used in the new project and following through to final output. Great! :-)
