available in maverick / 10.10 already. because 10.04 is lts backporting gitolite would be highly appreciated.

I did backport gitolite 1.5.4-2 from natty to both lucid and maverick and uploaded it to my backports PPA: https://launchpad.net/~kklimonda/+archive/backports
It should be available soon, and you can install and test it from there.

I've tested gitolite 1.5.4 (available in ppa:kklimonda/backports) on lucid and it works fine. Should be fine to backport.
