Bug Description
the PPA builds run "make check" and fail at the moment because test_progress in c/tests/test_child fails:
c/tests/
], got []
FAIL: c/tests/test_child
This can be reproduced by e.g. forcing stdout to not be a terminal:
make check >/dev/null
