Bug Description
Notebook model: HP Pavillion dv2172ea http://
HDD model: Seagate ST9120821AS http://
Ubuntu version: 6.10 (final version, fresh install)
When shutting down the system, I can hear the bad sound of the HDD being halted unsafely (because the power is being cut while the disk's head isn't in park position yet).
When shutting down WindowsXP the HDD halts with no bad sound.
This is bad, as halting the HDD in this manner causes very fast wear of the drive.

That's normally not a problem, as modern hard disks park the head automatically when the power is cut. Have you experienced data corruption or similar symptoms, at all? Do the filesystems on the drive get checked (fsck) regularly during bootup? I'd suggest installing smartmontools in order to find out if there's anything wrong with the disk.
