By chance were you trying to install it on a USB stick?

If so, how large is the USB stick, and if you reserved persistent storage space how much did you reserve?

For me it was an USB stick with 2gb and a maximum persistent storage of 1.2 gb.

Okay, unfortunately usb-creator doesn't make this clear but you need to leave some space outside the persistent storage, for doing kernel updates such as installing drivers. Calling it "persistent storage" is a bit misleading because that sounds like it should include kernel persistence as well, but basically the stuff that goes into /boot lives outside the persistent storage file, so if you use up all the usb drive space for the storage file, there's not enough left for updating the /boot stuff.
