steps to reproduce:
- enter some text into the search bar
- highlight that text
- type another character

the searchbar is hinted and then that character inserted into the hinted text... icky

technically, this bug is fixed in trunk, but the fix is so ugly, I'm not positive I want to call it fixed

ok, well, the bug is fixed. I am going to have to redesign the searchbar anyway, so I can call this one fixed for now
