Bug Description

Binary package hint: plymouth

After performing an upgrade to 11.04 Alpha, the affected system has no functioning video. The UBUNTU boot graphic displays briefly, but after that, the video goes blank. The backlight is on, but nothing shows. Attempting to switch to a PTTY session does not result in video returning.

I was able to get into the system once after a complete power off, however I have not been able to get the system to boot properly since.

The affected system is a lenovo S-10 netbook. I will attempt to get a hardware information dump to attach to this bug, provided that I am able to get video working.

If you manually adjust your boot arguments so that you are booting with both 'single' and 'splash' on the kernel commandline (and optionally, booting without 'quiet' set), are you able to successfully boot to the single user menu? If you are, and youselect failsafe X at that point, does X come up?

Rick: This might be a duplicate of #683775 and thus a kernel bug. Could you try using the debug kernel package attached to that bug testing it?

Steve,

I am able to get to failsafe X.

Daniel, I'll have a look at that bug. I guess I blamed plymouth due to it being the last thing to touch video.
