Can you explain in more detail how you got this error?
Were you installing onto a USB drive?
I also have an evergreen ati card, and I was able to get fglrx installed on it without this error. I also got unity installed and booted okay, although I had some problems with the docker.
So you should give more details about what you did to get this error. I can't reproduce it.
