Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu.

"You are using Ubuntu 10.10
                - the Maverick Meerkat - released in October 2010 and supported until April 2012."

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Source: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5

3) What you expected to happen

I expected my (Samsung SyncMaster 1100p Plus) monitor to be detected and X to know about display modes it can support.

4) What happened instead

It shows up as "unknown" and I had to manually configure the modes (which involved cvt/xrandr and gdm config files)

Hey Erno,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

I haven't had the chance to try it yet, and I might skip Natty. I didn't realise I had to respond in order to keep this from expiring. I imagine the "supported until April 2012" in the about dialog means bugs are still tracked for Maverick?

Erno Kuusela, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
