Bug Description

Binary package hint: gscan2pdf

Ubuntu 10.10 - the Maverick Meerkat
gscan2pdf 0.9.31-2

Once the "Scan" button in the "Scan Document" window is pressed, there is no way to stop the scanning process, even by pressing the "Cancel" button in the "Scanning..." window or "Close" button in the "Scan Document" window.

The scanner will continue scanning until it reaches the end of the scan size, say the size of an A4 paper. However, no image is produced once the scanning process is completed.

Force Quit is a bad idea. The scanner head stops abruptly in its current position instead of returning to its home position. To return the scanner head home, i simply ran Simple Scan. *still panicked though!*

Using a Canon CanoScan LiDE 25.

Which frontend (Edit/Preferences) are you using?

Do you have the same behaviour with all frontends?

Sorry for the late reply. The term 'frontend' scared me off :)

The frontend used is libsane-perl. i did a few runs with other frontends before posting this comment. Seems that this behaviour happens only with libsane-perl. Here's a short video of the scanner with libsane-perl: *i know it isn't much of an evidence*

For scanimage, on first try, upon cancelling, the scan head stops dead in its current position, light is off. Ran Simple Scan to return it to home position. However, subsequent tries are ok though still received some sort of pop-ups, each in separate windows.
- Operation cancelled
- Unknown message: Scanned page 1. (scanner status = 2)

For scanimage-perl, the scan head returns home, light is on.
- Unknown message: scanimage-perl: received signal INT
- Unknown message: scanimage-perl: sane_read: Error during device I/O
- Unknown message: Scanned page 1. (scanner status = 9)

For scanadf-perl, similar to scanimage-perl.
- Unknown message: scanadf-perl: stopping scanner...
- Unknown message: scanadf-perl: sane_read: Error during device I/O
- Unknown message: Error during device I/O

For scanadf, the scan head returns home, light is off.
- Unknown message: scanadf: stopping scanner...
- Operation cancelled
- Unknown message: Operation was cancelled
