Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

[Sorry for the silly title. ;-)]

The Intel driver in Maverick (2.12.0) is almost unusable for i915 because of redraw issues. Damaged areas don't seem to get repainted as needed, which mostly happens with scrolling areas (web pages, text processing, this kind of small use cases...). I've personally solved the issue by moving to xorg-edgers PPA since the release, but for most i915 users, Maverick will be a no-go.

I know that fixes were committed upstream quickly after Maverick was released, which made all glitches go away. I'm not sure they are present in 2.13.0, though. So I don't know what should be done, but from i915 owner's POV, I don't think Maverick can be worse. Feel free to close this as Won't Fix if you consider this as too messy, but OTOH if you need some testing of package, I can do it.

Since maverick is released, we're not doing further development on it,
however for serious issues sometimes patches are accepted.

So, if you'd like to help improve the state of i915 in maverick, please
look through the upstream changes and propose patches that you think
would make i915 better.

Note we also have updated drivers available in the x-updates PPA.
