Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

It actuallyi quite random when a dvi file (I guess it only happens with included .eps images) crashes at startup or it starts but the images aren't displayed.

When it crashes at startup I either just get:
fatal internal error -100Segmentation fault

or quite a long list of files and also "fatal internal error -100" but Aborted instead of "Segmentation fault"

Or in the best case scenario evince starts up but the images aren't displayed.
In the terminal window I then see:
Error rendering PS document file.eps: render error
also with the fatal error -100

It just doesn't crash but in most of the cases it crashes...

Damn it... I also wanted to mention that those dvi files are displayed correctly in xdvi

Thank you for helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please attach an example file that causes this problem?

The same happens to me. It occur when opening DVI files, PS and PDF ok. It doesn't render EPS images because of some type of issue and provokes crash with SIGSEGV.

I also have this issue with evince 2.32.0 on Ubtuntu 10.10. I have uploaded a sample dvi and eps file from a standard tex document distributed by The Optical Society of America. On my system this causes the unpredictable behaviour of either fatal error -100 or Seg fault as mentioned above. This file opens without trouble using either xdvi or evince on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

Thank you for the sample file, I am moving this back to new as I do not and will not for a while have access to my computer to try and reproduce this bug, someone else should pick this bug up.

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.

The issue in Natty is fixed.

In Natty Evince 2.32.0 is able to open up a .dvi with a .eps figure and
it works.
In Maverick Evince 2.32.0 crashes.
In Lucid with Evince 2.30.3 the .dvi opens up with no .eps figure
present, and no bounding box on where the image should be.

I tested the .eps in .dvi problem on two seperate computers with Natty
installed ( laptop and desktop ). Both have 64 bit Natty installed. I
have not tested Natty 32bit.

Thank you for the response
