Software gives download size for local .deb

Software Centre is now the GUI installation method for local .debs. Software Centre currently offers a download size, even though the .deb is local and does not require further downloading.

  1. gnome-open skype_*.deb
  2. Ubuntu Software Centre opens
  3. Displays non-zero download size (20% bigger than the local .deb)

Constrasting with bug #635015 shows that there's probably more issues that can be found from install the Skype package.

I have tried with a local deb, and the size is not displayed anywhere in software center 3.0.7 on maverick, it is displayed only for packages from repositories. Do you use Maverick or an earlier version?

Screenshot for replication on Software Centre 3.1.9 (natty up-to-date):

  1. sudo apt-get remove skype
  2. wget http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/pool/partner/s/skype/skype_2.1.0.81-1ubuntu5_i386.deb
  3. gnome-open skype_2.1.0.81-1ubuntu5_i386.deb
  4. Wait 15 seconds for Software Centre to think about things
  5. Observe stated download size for local leaf-node .deb

Tested with the steps you have described, no Download size shown for skype. Could you confirm it? I have tested on natty up-to-date, USC 3.1.15. See the screenshot attached.

I verified that in the latest version of Software Center, 5.1.14 in Precise, only the installed size is displayed when installing a local deb file (Skype in this case). No download size is shown. I'll attach a screenshot.
