power surge during install...can't install anything now

Here is the message I received after I attempted to install things after a power surge during an installation:

Thank you for reporting this bug. Apparently the package manager's installation file for the screenlets package got corrupted during the power outage. Try running the following commands from a Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal).

sudo dpkg --purge --force-all screenlets
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install screenlets

Keen, any news about this issue? have you tried to run workaround published in comment #2?

Actually I recently wiped the computer and re-installed ubuntu due to a partition problem I was having, which resolved it.
