Bug Description

After installing Linux Mint 10 32bit and Ubuntu 10.10 32bit I had the same problem:

The desktop felt sluggish, even the terminal was unresponsive. Video playback (smplayer, vlc, youtube) stuttered and the system couldn't reboot or halt at all.

After research I removed pulseaudio and everything worked fine afterwards.

I used this info:

Attached is my system's lshw....

Your symptoms point to a sound driver bug, not necessarily a pulse bug, so we'll begin troubleshooting with the former. Please use apport-collect 680807.
