preload breaks hibernation in Edgy + compiz

After installing preload hibernation has become impossible on my laptop with edgy, I get an error about "hal not hibernating". After removing preload all is well again.
I am using compiz, which did not hibernate in dapper but now works well with edgy.

Doesn't look like a gconf issue, reassigning to preload
