Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The
system tried to stop mysql before doing the upgrade, and failed to do so.
Could you please give the result of
ps -ef | grep mysql
Then
start mysql
ps -ef | grep mysql
and send the output?
If that succeeded in starting mysql, then go ahead and retry the upgrade.
