This is not a kernel issue as the kernel itself does not load the
watchdog module.

The reason you're seeing it loaded is because of hotplug.

This module should be blacklisted by default in hotplug.

Subject: kernel-image-2.6.5-1-686: watchdog reboots the computer

Package: kernel-image-2.6.5-1-686
Severity: grave

After an upgrade to 2.6.5 from 2.4.26 is the computer unusable due to
cyclic reboot. This is caused by loading the i810-tco watchdog-module
without having any daemon pinging the watchdog.

This looks similar to bug #247853, but the package discover is not
installed.

The full sequence performed to trigger this bug is:

1. Install the computer using a sarge beta 4 CD, selecting 2.4
   install.

2. Upgrade the kernel to 2.4.26.

3. Reboot.

4. Upgrade the kernel to 2.6.5.

5. Reboot.

Step 2 and 3 have probably nothing to do with the problem.

Chipset: Intel 7205

The watchdog modules shall *only* be loaded if a watchdog daemon is
installed!
