Bug Description

If I create a Note in kontact or with knote i'll see the new message in the correct folder. But the note ISN'T saved, because if I look to the content of this note (it is saved at the server as mail) it isn't complete ( see attachment).
But some months ago I created a good note with debian/testing. This is also attached.
Another thing that maybe helps to solve the problem. If I run kontact from the konsole I get a warning corresponding with saving the note.

Thanks for reading.

Version: 3.5 (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

I have a Disconnected IMAP account configured in KMail as my groupware account, and I have configured KNotes to use that IMAP account. Before I upgraded from KDE 3.3 to 3.4.2 recently, KNotes generally worked fine, but now KNotes only displays the one note that I had created before the upgrade.

If I create a new note, rename it, and type in some text, the note exists as long as KNotes isn't shut down. If I shut down and restart KNotes (but not KMail), the new note exists, but without any content and with its original (timestamp) name. If I shut down and restart both KNotes and KMail (i.e. by restarting the system), the new note is missing entirely.

There is an empty (sort of) item in my "Notes" IMAP folder however, which has "Content-Type: Text/plain", "X-Kolab-Type: application/x-vnd.kolab.note", and the following body:

| This is a Kolab Groupware object.
| To view this object you will need an email client that can understand the Kolab Groupware format.
| For a list of such email clients please visit
| http://www.kolab.org/kolab2-clients.html

(See the attached file for the full item.)

For every note I create, such an item is created in my "Notes" folder, but KNotes never saves the content of my new notes.

Note that I copied the attached note file directly from the file system of my IMAP server, so there _really_ isn't any other content stored in the note item. This is _not_ just an issue of KMail not being able to display the contents.

I think you should report this to the Kolab people since I don't know their code and I don't have a Kolab server running to test this on.

Their bug tracker is at: https://intevation.de/roundup/kolab/

After that, I would appreciate it if you gave me some feedback over here or closed the report yourself when it's fixed.

If you read my comments carefully, you'll notice that no Kolab server is involved. I use a plain, usual IMAP server and the "IMAP Server via KMail" resource from the KDEPIM package.

Fair enough, that doesn't change the fact that it's Kolab code though (look at your original report) and that I still don't know their code at all.

However, I didn't know it is possible to use the groupware stuff without an actual Kolab server, nice! So I tried it and I can reproduce the bug. Maybe I'll be able to debug and fix it, I'll give it a try. But no promises.

Well, I'm sorry but the bug seems to be somewhere deep in KMail's code that was written for the Kroupware project. But it seems they never completely finished the code for the note handling.

I have written to <email address hidden> (some Kroupware and Kolab authors are on it) with a report which method breaks but they didn't respond.

I can't fix the bug myself without spending a lot more time on it, so this will have to wait probably for another 6 months or more.

Thanks for looking into it! I'll be patient until either the Kroupware people or you manage to fix it. Too bad I don't have the slightest clue of KDE programming myself.

Same here with Kontact Version 1.2.3, KMail Version 1.9.5 on kubuntu edgy with kde 3.5.5. It would be really useful to save notes on a dimap folder. Contacts, Tasks and events are already saved, so this could be a quick fix for someone that knows the code a bit?

I have the same problem at all. Somewhere between updates notes began to be saved missing both name and content (example added as attachment).

I'm using kontact 1.2.4, knotes 0.5, kmail 1.9.6, kde 3.5.7 on opensuse 10.2 using an DIMAP resource into a standard IMAP mailbox.

Greetings.

The problem seems to be on the KMail end as far as I can tell.

I will look into the problem, but it might have to wait.

I don't think this has anything to do with kolab, at least not anymore. Any news on this?
If not, I'm going to close this report as I have no intention of fixing it and an akonadi port would automatically fix the problem (an would be the proper way for syncing).
