OpenGL Preview kill freezes System

When I open the "OpenGL Preview" window, my system completely freezes so that a hardware(!) reset is needed.

The preview window does not appear.

I guess, my graphic card does not support some needed extensions or something like that. I append the glxinfo.
There is no logfile or anything because the system is kill freezed immediately - neither mouse nor keyboard input is processed. Only hardware reset helps.

There are known problems with compiz desktop effects in combination with the OpenGL preview.

Otherwise your system should be fine, Hugin doesn't do anything that requires modern hardware.

In the systemsettings (german: "Systemeinstellungen") the desktop effekts (german "Arbeitsflächen_Effekte") are disabled.

Compiz I have never knowingly installed Compiz.

Neither have I, but it installs automatically if your hardware is supposed to supprot it.

On the other hand, if you have "desktop effects" disabled, it shouldn't run.

Can you double check that it isn't running?
Can you check if this still valid for 2010.4 beta?
