Bug Description

after upgrading from dapper to edgy, my turion64 based notebook has no more speedstepping enabled, and the cpu is always running at full speed. if i do:

fra@francesco:~$ powersave -c

i get:

Speedstepping is not supported.

also trying to restart powersaved:

fra@francesco:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/powersaved restart
Password:
 * Stopping power management daemon powersaved [ ok ]
 * Starting power management daemon powersaved FATAL: Error inserting speedstep_centrino (/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-386/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/speedstep-centrino.ko): No such device

I had the same problem with a Core Duo T2500 after upgrading from edgy to feisty. It is caused by a "wrong" default setting in
/etc/powersave/cpufreq

There is a line
CPUFREQD_MODULE="speedstep-centrino"
telling the powersaved to just try to load the speedstep-centrino kernel module which is the wrong one for turion64 or the Core Duo.
If this is set to the empty string "" the config file states that powersaved will probe for the right module then which seems a good default setting for me.
