Bug Description
The Gradient Editor dialog is shown in unreachable area when an external display device has been used previously, and only laptop screen is used then. I use an external display device with 1600x1200 resolution. I placed the Gradient editor dialog is on the right hand side of the drawing area while working on the drawing. Then when only the 1280x1024 laptop display is used later, the coordinates of the Gradient editor dialog are (1300, 90) or similar. Then there is now way how to reach that dialog, apart from connecting an external display device. This is a severe usability issue because an external display is not always reached: I am using an external display at workplace and laptop display when working remote, and this bug/feature has stopped my work progress for days.
I am an Interartion Designer for profession, so some free hints how to fix the issue:
1) Make the dialog glueable, so that it can be dragged e.g. to the bottom edge of the Inkscape window. Make the Layout Manager adapt to different box shapes.
2) Detect user's display resolution while opening dialog boxes and make sure that dialogs are always placed in visible screen area.
3) Always open the dialog box on coordinates (0, 0).
Please add information about your OS/platform and Inkscape version.
