Binary package hint: gedit-latex-plugin
There should be a way to disable the gedit LaTeX plugin toolbar, e.g. from the "View" menu. It occupies a lot of space on a netbook screen and it makes it difficult to switch between tabs when they contain LaTeX and non-LaTeX documents.
