Binary package hint: ubiquity
I know we can not ship proprietary drivers for NVidia and other on the Ubuntu Live CD, but would it be possible to have ubiquity detect a proprietary piece of hardware, ask user if he wants the driver installed, download driver if network connection exists, and install driver.
This would be one way to insure Unity with compiz will work properly OOTB on machine that use NVidia graphic cards in Natty.

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect 677563
and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
