Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Installed Edgy RC1 as a VM in VMware - host OS is Windows 2000. Mouse is a Microsoft "Wheel Mouse Optical". Scroll wheel doesn't scroll - not in Nautilus, not in Firefox, not in OpenOffice. System does detect wheel mouse *button*, but does not scroll.

Note - scroll wheel works fine when Edgy is installed as a full machine (native, not under VMware). Also, wheel mouse works fine in Dapper when installed as a VM.

I have installed Edgy several times under VMware (Edgy beta and RC1), and each time I have had this problem.

As I say in the text, this isn't limited to Firefox, but the bug reporting system seemed to require I pick one package, and that's the one it's most bothersome in. Maybe I should have looked for a mouse driver package - sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

I have this same problem with VMware server running on Edgy with Edgy as a guest.

JonM,

This sounds like a problem with vmware not just firefox. Would you mind filing a support request with vmware at http://www.vmware.com/support/sr/sr_login.jsp?followingPage=/support/sr/sr_home.jsp

Then, if you would please link that support request with this issue.

Dave

changed this to vmware-player.

I run VMware Server (Free version) and don't have this problem. This could be due to me installing the VMware toolset. To install VMware toolset, when you are booted up to an image and it is running, select from the toolbar "VM -> Install VMware Tools". I know this provides some extra mouse functions.

I've
got it working winxp host - edgy guest and a M$ wheelmouse with changing the protocol to IMPS/2 as found on.

I also installed vmware-tools ( workstation 5.5.3 build-34685 ) but it didn't worked without the change in xorg.conf.
