Bug Description

The 20101112 live cd build of natty desktop for mac (natty-desktop-amd64+mac) doesn't boot properly. The panels have squares for text and no cursor is shown. The GUI does not work at all. Switching to tty1 reveals the problem.

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ nano /etc/fstab
Error in /etc/nanorc on line 236: Error reading /usr/share/nano/nanorc.nanorc: Too many open files
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ ls
ls: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot close file descriptor: Input/output error
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ more /etc/fstab
/etc/fstab: Too many open files

Seeing this too with 20101112.1 live natty-desktop (32bit and 64bit). I do never even see a graphical desktop. It stays in a console. Errors are varied. What works one time does not work the next. I suspect 'too many open files' to be the root error.

Changed in ubuntu:
status: New → Confirmed
summary: - 'too many open files' on natty mac live cd

Todays 20101115 i386 boots to a working desktop. Although something (irq/17 -0000:03:) eats 30% CPU and everything is sluggish. Still, good enough for some wireless testing.
