Bug Description

Binary package hint: syslinux

I have a swiss french (fr_CH-latin1) keyboard, but when I see the boot menu of the CD (installation CD not live CD) I only have "Switzerland" in the F3 menu which select the swiss german keyboard and not my swiss french one.

It's on Edgy Eft (today's build)

I checked with the latest build of the Ubuntu CD and I saw the same problem.
I saw that the list of the keymaps is in the /isolinux/bootlogo file on the cdrom.
Switzerland is currently de_CH when it could also be fr_CH.

I can't fix this for edgy now, but I can fix it first thing in feisty (which is what we're using the "later" milestone for).

Ok, so we won't have our keyboard for Edgy.
Can you just tell me (if you know) why it was removed and only one keyboard was chosen for the Switzerland where we had two before ?
And how can we do to have the installer (not the Livecd) with our keyboard ? (any parameter to manually enter at the boot ?)

Thank you

This patch is not quite right (it looks like you've modified an autogenerated file without modifying the script that generates it in quite the correct ways) - but don't worry, I already had a correct patch in hand when I wrote my earlier comment, which will go in the first gfxboot-theme-ubuntu to Feisty.

The reason the keymap disappeared was that the entire console keymap system was totally revamped in Edgy. I didn't intentionally throw out Swiss French - it fell out by accident.

To boot with a Swiss French keymap, add "console-setup/layoutcode=ch console-setup/variantcode=fr" to the kernel command line.

gfxboot-theme-ubuntu (0.3.0) feisty; urgency=low

  * Add Swiss French keymap (closes: Malone #67355).
  * Pass any country code found in ll_CC form in the "lang" file through to
Linux. Make sure to strip off the country internally when required.
  * Prefer exact keymap locale matches to substring matches.
