Bug Description

Binary package hint: xfce4-terminal

Xubuntu 10.10 xfce4-terminal cursor is opaque or rather not inverting the character under it.
With black text and a black cursor on a white background the character under the cursor is not visible. Changing the cursor to light-grey makes that character visible again.
Previous versions inverted the character to white on the black cursor.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

I can confirm this issue using an up-to-date, as of 2010-11-10, installed version of Natty Narwhal. The screenshots clearly show the issue.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

I had the same issue in Gentoo. A temporary workaround that works for me is to edit ~/.config/Terminal/terminalrc and set ColorCursor to an empty value:

    ColorCursor=

I just tried that after reading http://answerpot.com/showthread.php?887762-Bug+621298+-+Cursor+invisible+(plain+black)+in+(xfce)+Terminal+%26+terminator I do not know if it can be related or not.

-ColorCursor=#aaaaaaaaaaaa
+ColorCursor=

Gives a black cursor with the character under it in white - in other words brings back the original behavior.

The commit linked to speaks of "highlight" and "reverse" - which I cannot correlate these to fields in the preferences dialog.

After upgrading to 11.04 I still see this symptom. And the workaround still works.

I know that developers don't like comments in bug reports, but it's been 7 years since this bug was reported and it still is a problem on Xubuntu 16.04.4. Can we get the packager to set the ColorCursor= (comment #7) in the config file? (Config is currently located at ~/.config/xfce4/terminal/terminalrc). Or, is there no default config packaged and the application writes the initial config? This should be easy.

This is fixed in Xubuntu 18.04.
