Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Unable to open Open office spreadsheet when a new document is created by right clicking in Ubuntu and changing the extension to .xls or .xls in Desktop.

Steps to reproduce this:
1. Right click in Ubuntu Desktop and Select 'create new document' option and select 'Empty file' option.
2. once the file is created change the extention of the file to '.xls' or '.xlt'.
3. Double click the file.Notice that the file is not getting launched.

For me the file launches but cannot be opened since it is an empty file.
I don't think Openoffice is doing anything wrong.
I'm assigning to nautilus since this is an issue with a lack of document templates by default but in future you should start a new document within Openoffice.

trying on natty the libreoffice screen is displayed so nautilus is calling it, it's just that an empty file probably doesn't qualify as something the libreoffice-calc consider a valid file to load, in any case not a nautilus bug
