Bug Description

Hi,

This is a bug I have experienced for years in tagaini. Usually search works in japanese but quite often it stops working that is no result appears though the character i am looking for correctly appears in the button right of list box used to select the type of result (all, kanji, vocabulary). Reset search usually fails to improve things though search in french still works.

It really appears randomly, I have not found out any way to make this bug appear automatically this is why I haven't reported it before.

Best regards,

Alain

Pictures to illustrate :
left: pasting the 娠 character in the field :no result.
right : pasting or type "femme", results appear.

Thanks for the report. This is indeed a bug I experience myself once in a while - the database engine seems to go nuts and search does not work anymore. Did not notice it worked with romaji though.

For the upcoming 0.9.0 much of the DB code has been rewritten, so I have good hope this bug will just disappear. If this is not the case, it will feature a debug log that should make it easier to track the problem down.

If you gain more information about how to trigger this bug, I'd also be glad to hear it.

Changed in tagaini-jisho:
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → High
milestone: none → 0.9.0
milestone: 0.9.0 → none

Unfortunately, albeit less frequently, this bug is still present in 0.8.85.
Willing to help.

The bad news : the bug is still here in the git repository as for 2011/10/23.

The good news : there is a work around : when search fails, hit the backspace (above return) key, then search works ;)
There should be some garbage after conversion or pasting kanjis.

Best regards,

Alain

Hi,

Just hitting backspace fixes this? That is a little bit strange, could you tell which part of the GUI should have focus when doing this?

Yes, it does.
This is the text field where you type your search which has the focus.
