hplip 3.10.6 will not allow duplex a4 on Photosmart C309g

Bug Description
I have just bought a Photosmart C309G printer. On my desktop, which is running Ubuntu 10.04 with hplip 3.10.2, I can set the printer to print in duplex mode. On my laptop, which is running Ubuntu 10.10 with hplip 3.10.6, when I select the duplex output option I get a reported conflict between the duplex mode and the paper size A4 and the printer properties panel will not let me save my configuration. The printer prints duplex quite happily on A4 paper, so the problem is with the driver.
I have tried to install the latest version of hplip, but this doesn't seem to be possible on 10.10 (see #671363)
