Try downloading the driver for your NIC here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#2. Download the tarball, extract it, and open the README file for instructions on how to compile, insert and check if the module is working. It will probably be easier to run the autorun.sh file, perform chmod +x autorun.sh on the file first. Also you may have to remove the existing module first, r8169, before loading the new module by executing rmmod r8169.

Hi Mrinal,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 670793

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Ubuntu Authorities,

I need to tell you that, yeah, there's still the issue. Ethernet is still
disabled, and I can't still access the internet.
Its just that updating from a previous version to the new one is not that
successful, that's why I'm gonna have to try the new releases you are
offering.

Anyways, thanks a lot for your help. I wan't you to know that I really like
using ubuntu. It just needs a few adjustments with its installation
properties like:

1. Allow updating to the newer version from the CD or the iso image itself.
2. Make a better WUBI installation- it keeps failing.
3. Try and start promoting 64-bit version, its the future.

Thanks again.
