Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10
  Installed: 0.63.1ubuntu14
  Candidate: 0.63.1ubuntu14
  Version table:
 *** 0.63.1ubuntu14 0
        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

This is totally a cosmetic item. When synaptic is called for the first time after installation it displays a dialogue about wanting to be reminded of something or other. It then displays the words "rebuilding the ... index" Since the index has never been build, this being the first call on the package, the "re" should be omitted. I realise in a multilingual system such as this, bad grammar does fall though the cracks, but since there is a very large English speaking community, I think we should take special care to get it right. The days of accepting computer geekery are past.

That version is too old and no more maintained; and languages usage also change with the elapsing time.

Good to clean up these old reports.

Language change? I shouldn't think recoding a package would be needed once it is working. Recoding a package as an exercise in language seems too academic fro production use. [I can write a COBOL program in any language.]
